56% of these were classed as non-accidental.
According to government estimates (CLG), the average cost of school fires 2000-2004 was £58million per year.
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, requires “The Responsible Person” to provide a Fire Risk Assessment for all places of work which includes schools. The risk assessment should be conducted to ensure the general fire precautions are acceptable for all employees and pupils.
